This product is springless. The slide is designed to have a little give. Brass is a softer metal so we have to adjust tolerance to avoid scoring on the finish from the friction.

For $50 it’s not built well. Super flimsy, the lever is loose doesn’t stay in place. Constantly adjusting in my pocket does not stay set in either open or closed position
Man, really sorry to hear this. And, appreciate you sharing all of this, genuinely helpful to hear. We made a deliberate call on how we built the tool. First, we went springless. Adding a spring opened us up to more points of failure. We wanted to keep it simple and built to last.
The tradeoff is a looser slide than a spring-loaded tool. That's partly by design. Brass is a soft metal, and if the tolerance is too tight, you get scoring on the finish from the friction. We'd rather have smooth and slightly loose than seized up or scratched.
We've already adjusted the milled notch on the closed position to hold better, and continuing to adjust how we make even better that'll allow tighter tolerances across the board.

looks cool and does a good job of fixing pitch marks...the slide gets jammed with dirt and the locking mechanism is clunky. Probably wouldn't recommend because of price and the above factors.

Great design and quality materials. My only grievance would be the lack of its ability to lock into place once set. When using it to fix a ball mark the tool wants to retract and it isn’t very sturdy because the “bolt action” isn’t fixed in place.
